Good advice. We advocate calling the local police or military support unit
such as the unexploded ordinance group. They have the equipment to handle
this and often look forward to providing service to the public and as a
training exercise. It isn't worth the risk to try and open containers manually, in
our experience it is safer when in doubt to let the ordinance trained folks
detonate them in a safe, controlled environment.
