SCIENCE SAFETY OFFICER
Grade 57

Provides scientific safety services to research and teaching laboratories and other clients in the chemistry complex.  Advises CCB Personnel on all safety issues and performs duties working closely with faculty, staff, students, postdocs, and others in the research environment.  Supports clients with implementation of laboratory safety and industrial hygiene programs and may assist with the implementation of other safety and safety-related programs as required.  Develops and conducts chemical safety training programs, assists with Chemical Hygiene Plans, conducts safety evaluations, and conducts inspections and investigations.  Provides technical assistance and guidance directly to the clients through consultations; prepares technical reports and analyses.  Prepares for and provides emergency response services.  Works closely and collaboratively with Harvard Environmental Health and Safety and the Science Division.

Masters degree in chemistry (preferably organic) with 4+ years=92 experience in chemical/biological laboratories (ideally in an academic or research institution).  

Ph.D. in chemistry (preferably organic) preferred.  Requires solid working knowledge and operational level expertise of EH&S regulations, with emphasis on OSHA laboratory compliance, working knowledge of DPH, EPA, and other government and state regulations.  Must have excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment as well as demonstrated ability to work independently, cooperatively and collaboratively and with a proven philosophy of =91service=92.  Must be committed to professional growth, including compliance training in RCRA, DOT and other areas.
