NIH Announces October as National Biosafety Stewardship Month

NIH has announced that October 2015 is National Biosafety Stewardship Month (NBSM), which will coincide with the ABSA Conference.

National Biosafety Stewardship Month is a period during which institutions are encouraged to reinforce their attention to biosafety policies, practices and procedures. In 2015, we are encouraging participating institutions to focus their efforts on sustaining and enhancing a culture of safety/responsibility in life science research laboratories. The themes of this year's NBSM relate to training, engagement, and transparency.

Carrie D. Wolinetz, Ph.D., Associate Director for Science Policy, NIH sent a memo  announcing NBSM to the biosafety community yesterday.  A notice about NBSM was also posted in the NIH Guide to Grants and Contracts.  The notice is available at:  http://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-OD-15-163.html

Further information about NBSM is available in a series of FAQs and representatives from the NIH Office of Science Policy will be available at the ABSA Conference to answer questions.
