One reason for these inspections is review of the function of lab facility safety equipment (hoods, eyewashes, safety showers, etc.) so there is value added to people working in the labs. Along the way, we look for implementation of best practices related to the chemical or biological work involved. Because of the size of the institution, we're able to do this 3 times/year, along with the various waste pickups, consultations, training sessions, etc. It's rather luxurious compared to my experiences at other campuses.
