Responsibilities

 

Direct the technical, administrative, personnel and budgetary requirements of the University's EH&S program areas of Biological Safety, Chemical Safety, Laboratory Safety, and Radiation Safety to ensure compliance with regulations and university policy. Oversee the University's Environmental Compliance activities to ensure compliance with applicable regulations and guidance while pursuing a high level of environmental stewardship. Participate in university activities, including, but not limited to: research protocol reviews, committee participation and/or training program participation (development, presentation, attendance) to ensure that relevant expert knowledge and specialized resources are being effectively utilized in addressing campus safety and health concerns. Review internal and external audits, inspections and investigations of University operations/activities, laboratories and related facilities to ensure compliance with regulations and policy while continually assessing the potential for quality and customer service improvements. Interact with campus officials; local, state and federal authorities as needed to ensure programs are achieving compliance through implementation of best practices while maintaining budgetary constraints. Participate in departmental activities as needed for strategic planning, budget planning and overall operation.

 

Qualifications

 

Bachelor's degree and four years of experience related to the duties of the job; or high school diploma/equivalent and eight years of experience in the same. (Note: post-high school education can substitute for experience at the equivalent rate.) Ability to strategically plan and serve as a catalyst for organizational change, cultivate a shared vision with others, and motivate others to transfer vision into action. Knowledge of and ability to identify safety hazards and necessary safety precautions to establish a safe work environment. A valid FL or GA driver's license or the ability to obtain. Note: a post-hire physical examination is required for this position.

Preferred

 

Education in the safety, sciences or related field, professional certification in applicable discipline (for example: Industrial hygiene, health physics or safety). Knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related University policies, procedures, principles, and practices.

Anticipated Salary Range

 

Anticipate on hiring at or near $75,000 - negotiable based on education and/or experience

Criminal Background Check

 

This position requires successful completion of a criminal history background check, to include fingerprinting.

Pay Plan

 

This is an A&P (Administrative and Professional) position.
