Having a hard time getting to the National ACS meeting?  Need some CM points?  No worries!  Midwest Chemical Safety will be offering two chemical safety workshops, March 23 and 24, 2017 in Birmingham, AL at the Springhill Suites Colonnade.

Effective Chemical Safety Management: A Risk-Based Approach (March 23):  Designed for those responsible for chemical safety in the workplace, this workshop will introduce the Laboratory Standard and the effective Chemical Hygiene Plans.  We will cover introductory toxicology, laboratory chemical hood evaluation, standard operating procedures development in a research environment and waste management fundamentals.  We will have an in-depth discussion of hazard and risk and use a number of risk management tools to evaluate common teaching, research and field work.  The day is wrapped up with a session of “Ask Dr. Safety” so that participants can get their EH&S questions answered before they leave.

Research Without Rules: Process Safety Management for Research and Small-Scale Chemical Processes (March 24):  This workshop is a follow-on to the Effective Chemical Safety Management Workshop.  With a firm foundational Chemical Hygiene Plan already in place, Research Without Rules expands on reactive chemical safety identification, and risk management foundations found in OSHA’s Process Safety Management Standard and how that looks in a research and small-scale process environment.  We will introduce four risk assessment tools (LabRAT, LabHAZOP, LabFMEA and What-If) to common research, scale-up and pilot-plant operations.  We will thoroughly cover change management and how effective management-of-change can be accomplished in a fast-paced research environment.

Single workshops are priced at $350 for ACS/AIHA/CSHEMA members; $375 non-members.  Take both for $600 (members) $650 (non-members).

Online registration is now open and available at:  http://midwestchemsafety.com/workshop.php .  You will not be billed for the registration until the minimum number of participants have registered (5).  Registration confirmation deadline (i.e. “go/no-go”) is MARCH 3rd.   Check the company’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook..com/midwestchemsafety/) for updates/confirmation messages.

There is a block of rooms set aside at the Springhill suites for accommodations on a first-come-first-served basis.  Contact the Springhill Suites at 205-969-8099 for more information.
