Denise:

For general training in safety and occupational hygiene there is the Occupational Hygiene Training Association. This is an international organization (I am a Board Member) that works to promote safety and health through training. Much of the training is geared toward industrial/occupational hygiene but there are also awareness level courses that include safety. At present, we do not have any course specific to laboratory safety. However, we do have courses that would help with staff.

The organization is a not-for-profit in the USA and a recognized charity in the UK where it is headquartered. We do not charge for any materials or courses. Our materials can be downloaded for free. Most of our courses are available in multiple languages. There are training providers whom are approved and they charge fees except for a few such as workplace health without borders (WHWB). There are also international certifications at the technician level.

You can get all of this information from our website.

Denise,

The Safety Training Consortium is a group of 50 universities that creates high quality online training and also shares modules created by member institutions. See:

http://safetytrainingconsortium.weebly.com

Membership is very reasonable at $7,500 or $12,500 per year for an unlimited number of users and full use of all courses.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Online Safety Training Program

Hello All,

I'm not sure if this has been asked to this group before but if it has apologies for asking again. Have any of you utilized an online safety training program at your institutions that you can recommend? Not something that was internally developed, but something that can be sourced externally and used for training of faculty, graduate and undergraduate students as well as staff that will be working in the academic lab setting. Thank you.

Regards,

Denise
