I am very interested in this topic, in part as I have recently set a few of my research students to the task of writing Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for our laboratory. It is an engaging project - generally speaking at the start they couldn't write a proper brownie recipe if their lives depended upon it yet they are making great progress and we all having a good time.
One of the key areas, as noted below in current ACS doctrine, is the inclusion of safety related information in scientific publication (of all kinds). I was pleased to learn of the availability of the 2020 edition of the ACS Guide and saddened to learn that it is only available by SUBSCRIPTION. This makes it more difficult for me to disseminate this Very Good (VG) information (safety and otherwise) to the next generation of future scientists of America and the World.
This esteemed audience certainly needs no reminder how important clear and effective written (and oral) communication are for the many professions both scientific and otherwise. I do wish in my heart of hearts that there could be a more facile way of sharing this VG information farther and wider than currently the case.
