I really appreciate this discussion of the vagaries of measuring specific aspects of hazard scenarios. The points raised remind me that:

1) hazards occur as part of complex systems which are difficult to describe using simple measurements and first principles
2) risks result from the situation as much as the hazardous properties of the starting materials
3) the value of multiple open minds participating in the risk assessment process is often overlooked in favor of the temptation to do a calculation to answer a risk question.
