I looked into the situation of the Board a while ago, reading over their public documents. It appears that her assistant was a political appointee (a "Schedule C" in Washington-ese) from the previous administration who managed to burrow his way into the civil service in a Senior Executive Service jobÑwhich isn't really something that happens routinely.


While Dr. Lemos was the whole board, it put out a very strange Board Order that looks as if it pretty much centralized power in the Chair and relegated the other Board members to being mouthpieces. I'm wondering, given the wording of Lemos' resignation, whether there was lots of pushback from the new Board members on that.

Here's hoping that the President will fill the remaining positions with chemists and chemical engineers...
