Demystify: 

We do not allow them in the lab areas for professional and safety reasons. Once circumstance from the safety perspective is that a person who is wearing headphones can not hear their fellow co-workers if they are trying to alert them to a potentially hazardous situation in the general facility. They are however allowed to wear them in the office and break areas. So you do have to make some allowances.
