Subject: Re: Environmental sustainability in labs?
Comments: To: "Harry J. Elston"

Harry,

In my dictionary (Merriam-Webster, abridged) it says that "sustain" means to
support, to uphold, etc.--so I suppose sustainability would mean "capable of
being sustained", or capable of being supported or upheld.

I hope this helps. As I said with respect to Neal at the CCS meeting in
Washington a few days ago, I am always happy to help you younger chemists
know more about what you should have learned earlier in your career but at
the time you were sleeping--or looking attractive blonds--or whatever.

Jay

PS: Now as to why Ralph is interested in sustaining labs is something you
will have to ask him about.
