That was me as a citizen.  On a jury, I suspect I would convict since it seems like he is being reckless.  As a prosecutor, I would try for a plea agreement where he haas to give talks to the area school teachers and perhaps post a video explaining how "cool" experiments and demos have to go through a thorough risk analysis and be done in a safe manner.
