We do not yet have a complete risk assessment piece for teaching labs. However, we have been helping teaching labs develop checklists for laboratory instructors
to support safe practices in the lab. The checklist developed for our Biology department is attached; the teaching lab checklist includes an assessment of the PPE required for the course and a requirement that SOPs are available as appropriate. Prior to the
implementation of the checklist, lab instructors had no guidance on safe practices, and the teaching labs were woefully below expectations on routine site visits.
This checklist has been shared with at least three other departments with similar challenges—temporary instructors, remote locations, varied course offerings—and
these departments have also found this to be a useful tool to bring safety guidance into the undergraduate lab course.

This concise to the point and very much needed.
I have been promoting the idea that we need risk assessment documents for all experiments we do in our teaching labs. Does anyone have templates and or examples?

With the support of the ACS's Innovative Project Grant program for technical divisions, DCHAS has been working with Timothy Gallagher of the University of Bristol
