Demystify:

It’s not listed as a carcinogen because sulfuric acid liquid is not a carcinogen.  It’s only the mist.  (If the manufacturer made “sulfuric acid mist” it would carry the carcinogen warning.

Some SDS preparers may put the warning in section 16 or in section 11 (toxicology).

Subject: [DCHAS-L] SDS - Section 2 Hazards for sulfuric acid

All –

I have a question that was brought to me by a technician.

Sulfuric acid has been listed as a class 1 carcinogen by IARC, but it is not listed as such in the section 2, which emphasizes its corrosive hazard.  The carcinogenicity is not noted until the health section. THE IARC monograph indicates that the mist is the route for this effect.

Is section 2 intended only for the immediate hazards?

Thanks -
