Demystify:
So sad. When I read about the size of that school and no organized EH&S even for the science labs, I can only imagine what is going on in their art and theater departments. Monona

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Northern Virginia Community College
Dear ACS CHAS Community:
Would you be able to provide some assistance ( good models, resources and maybe some guidance) to Dan Dusseau, who is theChief of Police at the Northern Virginia College. My understanding is that the college does not have a Health and Safety specialist , and lab safety is part of the Office of Emergency Management and Safety. Please see below
Dan's message.
Northern Virginia Community College (NOVA) has six campuses and more than 73, 500 enrolled students. The College has a variety of labs and is seeking to improve lab safety. We have started the conversation with a variety of stakeholders
that includes professors, facilities, and the Office of Emergency Management and Safety. We anticipate that much of the solution may center around policy, procedures and training, however the college lacks the specific model and/or expertise. Some expertise
does exists in specific labs on certain campuses, but it is not coordinated and has little oversight.
We are looking to identify other similar institutions that have faced the problem and been successful. The College is also interested in best practices and any consultants that may be able to assist.
Thank you
Dan
