Demystify:

Last week, at the Green Chemistry & Engineering Conference, the Committee on Chemical Safety helped organize a symposium on "Making Chemistry Greener and Safer". Presentation files from many of the talks given there are now available at
https://dchas.org/2019/06/12/making-chemistry-greener-and-safer/

The talks were very inspiring, particularly those that discuss collaborations between chemistry departments and environmental health and safety staff to enhance general and organic chemistry courses for undergraduate students.

One particularly interesting presentation was from Clemson University, which discussed the "Green Duality of perspective and scale". This perspective contrasts the bench-level and institution-level impacts of specific aspects of chemical education, such as flammables storage, chemical inventories and compliance efforts and discusses the challenges associated with measuring those impacts.

My thanks to all of last week's presenters and Peter Reinhardt of the Yale University for organizing the symposium!
