======================

A paper conservator is seeking a H&S professional to write (stipend provided) an essay on safe use of organic solvents, for a publication she is editing. The Museum Working Group is posting her request, in the hopes a few of you might be interested. Please contact Ms.O'Loughlin directly. Thank you!

Project Query

I am a paper conservation professional in need of help with an upcoming book. The publication would be greatly enhanced by an essay that succinctly covers the basic principles of health and safety in regards to the use of organic solvents. The audience is mid-career and senior conservators who work with solvents to dissolve deteriorated adhesives such as those seen in aged pressure-sensitive tapes. Conservators receive an emphasis on safety and the use of hazardous materials during their training. However, it is essential that they stay abreast of the current knowledge and best practice recommendations. The essay should reflect the most current thinking on subjects such as personal protective equipment, and perhaps a mention of issues regarding women and solvent hazards (art conservation is a female dominated field). Word length is not to exceed 5000 although some flexibility is possible. Charts, diagrams and images are welcomed. Publication date is projected for 2021.

Please contact me for further information. There is a stipend available for the project.
