Demystify:

I've recently been involved in getting livestreaming up and running for my local section (Portland, OR). The recording/non-broadcasting aspects can be done for less than $500.

Livestreaming is non-trivial, and depends heavily on access to solid internet (i.e. WiFi will often not work to produce a quality stream).

Recordings available to members would be very helpful, and worth at least $100.

Best wishes, Jim

I would expect to pay the same fee for live-streaming as if I were attending in person. Just trying to save the time and expense of organizing the trip...
My 2 cents..

Obviously this is a good idea, but doesn't solve our problem of meeting minimum requirements unless the "off-site" registrations are numerous. Adding the additional cost of live-streaming (actually thousands of dollars when you consider the convention charges for internet & video) will significantly increase costs and therefore the number of minimum attendees. Our main problem is people waiting until the last minute to register; we must cancel rooms at least two weeks in advance or we'll be charged for empty rooms.

That said, we can certainly consider live-streaming or webcast type presentations when we can meet the financial requirements- what would people be willing to pay to watch live-streaming of a presentation?
