Demystify:

Monona, I bought the third edition of this book this year (not knowing that a 4th was in the works).  I've been meaning to share a story with you.

This year, we hired a new supervisor of art and performing arts.  I told him (this was late August) that I deliver hazardous materials and safety awareness training to our science teachers every year.  He asked if I could speak to our art teachers (K-12) briefly about safety this year.  I said I would, knowing that the art teachers were a somewhat contentious bunch (from his predecessor, who retired last year).

He put me on the agenda for 20 minutes.  I was expecting eye rolls, blank faces, and folks checking their email on their cell phones.

What actually happenedI finished my talk, asked "any questions?" and was allowed to leave an hour and a half later!  It seems they had been waiting years for this!  So many questions about glazes, clay dust, kilns, ventilation, etc.

That's why I bought your book.  I may be picking your brain this spring!

I'll put something on the site as soon as I know.  I'm really amazed at the number of people interested in this limited chemistry area.  So cool.  Monona

Please add me to the list!! Your ideas for improving the book sound wonderful and I am not saying it because it is Friday.

Again Many Thanks,

It was supposed to come out earlier, but I wrote an f'n tome on the subject and the editors keep pushing it back.  They say now in July.  I'll believe it when I see it.  It's the 4th Edition of the Artist's Complete Health & Safety Guide.  What I hoped to do was make it easier for people who consult in this area to have a list at the end of each media chapter of most of the things they should be checking and thinking about when they go through each art department.  Somebody's got to do this when I croak.

If there is an interest, I'll put it on the list when I know for sure.  Also, the 40 hour course at UMass-Amherst is set for August 24-28 this summer.  I'm still waiting for a flyer or a registration link so I can start beating the bushes.  And if someone really qualified, interested, but broke wants to talk about a little financial help, that might be possible.
