HI Bob,
Whenever I did a hazards evaluation in the lab or even chemical plants we always had a robust discussion on the reliability of flammability / reactivity and even physical property data and whether it really applied to the specific situation.
When I taught a process safety or lab safety class to chemical engineering students I would frequently have the student's collect SDSs from a variety of sources to see the variability in the data. There was also a lot of variability in toxicty info.
I easily convinced them to use more than one source of information for hazard information and to do a critical review of this info.
