Demystify: 

My repeated experience is that unsupervised chemistry stockrooms and other common use areas quickly become dumping grounds for materials with no intended use and which often become significant expenses when the decision to dispose of degraded chemicals is made.

In my opinion, just as a chemistry department library needs to be managed by librarian to maintain its value, a chemistry stockroom needs to be managed by a person who can oversee the contents and quality of the inventory. Otherwise, a 10 AM Saturday morning visit to pick up a missing solvent is likely to come up empty...
