Good morning.  Wendy Warr posted this in the chminf-listserv. Thought I would go ahead and post here as well.   I am excited to participate in the panel discussion, as this was such an important project I had the privilege of working on during my tenure at Pistoia Alliance and beyond.  Seeing CSHEMA getting involved, seeing CAS continue its support, seeing the efforts from folks in DCHAS, especially Ralph Stuart, and in CINF, in particular Grace Baysinger, really shows how the community can come together to try new ways to foster chemical safety in the lab.  Hope you can all attend.

Helping Scientists Stay Safe Through the Chemical Safety Library

September 8, 10:00 EDT / 7:00 PDT / 15:00 BST

Chemical Safety Library project started in Autumn 2015 and delivered a tool used to capture hazardous reactions to share with scientists about to perform an experiment and so reduce safety incidents. Pistoia have been in partnership with CAS working to increase the visibility of the tool and its value.

This webinar co-hosted by The Pistoia Alliance and CAS will engage a panel of experts to highlight how scientists and research organizations can reduce the risk of adverse chemical safety events in their labs using the Chemical Safety Library, an open-access platform for searching and sharing hazardous reaction information crowd-sourced from scientists in academic, industry, and government labs around the world.

Learn more about:

  • The value of crowdsourcing to improve chemical lab safety globally
  • What the Chemical Safety Library contains
  • How you can use and contribute to the Chemical Safety Library
  • Building a safety-focused culture in your lab

Speakers:
  • Gabrielle Whittick, Director of GMW Consulting, Executive Project Manager of CSL

  • Dr. Qiong Yuan, Director of Innovation, CAS, Executive Director of CSL

  • Mark Manfredi, Chair of CSL Advisory Panel

  • Carmen Nitsche, General Manager of CCDC, Immediate Past Chair of CSL Advisory Panel

  • Beth Welmarker, Executive Director of EHS, Nova Southeastern University, President of CSHEMA

  • Thomas Vickery, Senior Engineer, Merck, CSL Advisor

  • Chengjian Zhu, Dean of School of Chemistry and Chemical Engineering, Nanjing University
