More alarming news about PFAS, from EPA.
Which HDPE containers are fluoridated? Are any consumer food HDPE containers fluoridated? I can't find the answer.

EL PASO, Texas -- A large amount of hazardous materials was discovered by The El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office at the 1100 block of East San Antonio Avenue Wednesday.
EPFD responded to the scene due to the risk the materials posed to the environment and public safety hazards.
It took over seven hours and 30 firefighters to safely move 760 gallons of acid and base solutions for proper disposal.
The City said it is working with the El Paso Fire Marshal’s Office to investigate the incident to determine if any further actions will be needed.

Fire and Emergency NZ has confirmed a person was injured during a mercury spill incident in Cromwell yesterday.
A Fenz spokeswoman told the Otago Daily Times it did not provide any medical assistance during the mercury contamination incident.
"Any questions about injuries and medical treatment will need to be directed to the individual," the spokeswoman said.
Firefighters responded to reports of a potentially hazardous substance yesterday about 12.30pm.
Otago Area Assistant Commander Craig Geddes said yesterday volunteer crews from Cromwell set up a cordon and ventilated the residential property where the mercury was found.
A hazardous materials unit was being deployed from Dunedin today to assess the spillage and remove the contaminated material safely.
There was no risk to the public, Geddes said.
Fenz national hazardous substances advisor, Dr Trudy Geoghegan, said the main risk from a mercury spill was the vapour, but it can also be absorbed through the skin.
The circumstances of the spill is still under investigation.

FOND DU LAC (WKOW) -- Workers at a Fond du Lac apartment had a scare Thursday, after pool chemicals combined to make a dangerous gas, according to Fond du Lac Fire/Rescue.
Around 1:20 p.m., fire crews were dispatched to Countryside Village Apartments on 836 Security Drive for a report of pool chemicals mixing to make a dangerous gas.
Upon arriving, crews were directed to the pool's mechanical room where they found a small amount of sulfuric acid and chlorine liquid mixed on the floor.
A contractor who was on site was working in the pool area when the chemical liquid pumps inadvertently began operating, causing the chemicals to be released from the plumbing system onto the floor.
The complex workers in the office building adjacent to the pool and its mechanical room noticed the smell of chlorine gas.

Plastic containers made of fluorinated high-density polyethylene (HDPE) are likely to leach per- and polyfluoroalkyl substances (PFAS) into pesticides and other liquid products that are stored in them, results from the US Environmental Protection Agency suggest.
The data, released Sept. 8, show that the amount of PFAS that migrates into liquid products increases with storage time.
PFAS are a family of thousands of highly persistent synthetic chemicals that are widely used in society, from industrial applications to stain-resistance on clothing. Some are toxic, but the safety of many others has never been studied.
The EPA has been investigating the presence of PFAS in pesticides since late 2020, when the persistent molecules were detected in mosquito sprays applied aerially in many US states. In early 2021, the agency suggested that PFAS, formed when the containers were subjected to fluorine gas to make them sturdier, had migrated from the HDPE into the liquid pesticides.
In the latest study, the EPA examined the potential for three different brands of fluorinated HDPE containers to leach PFAS into water and methanol over time. The liquids served as surrogates for pesticides. The agency did not disclose the names of the container brands.
The EPA detected 8 out of 31 PFAS targeted in the analysis in both water and methanol stored in the fluorinated containers, indicating that PFAS migrated from the container walls into the liquids. The amount of PFAS varied by container brand, but in all cases increased gradually with storage time over 20 weeks. The agency detected higher levels of PFAS in methanol than in water.

ENOLA, Pa. — On Sunday, September 4, Lebanon City Fire Department and Lebanon City Police responded to a fire caused by a chemical explosion. Police say they suspect that a small methamphetamine lab had exploded inside a single apartment unit on the 200 block of E. Cumberland Street.
One firefighter did sustain chemical burns but was not hospitalized. Lebanon police had also requested on scene aid from the Pennsylvania State Police Clandestine Laboratory Response Team.
According to police, after searching around the apartment building officers located Brian Gingrich, a 57-year-old Lebanon resident hiding under a boat. Gingrich was injured as a result of the chemical explosion. He was transported to a local medical facility specializing in burn injuries.

EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A hazardous chemical material was found in downtown El Paso Wednesday afternoon.
The incident was reported at 1104 E San Antonio Avenue.
Fire officials said hazard chemical materials were found not in a proper storage container.
Officials said the incident posed a risk to the public.
The hazmat team was called to the area to remove the chemicals.

MITCHELL COUNTY, N.C. (WLOS) — An incident involving a tanker and a subsequent hazmat spill in Mitchell County is expected to close a road at least until Thursday morning, Sept. 8.
Rohn W. Silvers with North Carolina State Highway Patrol said crews received a call that a tanker hauling 4,500 gallons of hydrofluorosilicic acid crashed on NC-226, at NC-197, at about 9:15 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 7, and a hazmat spill occurred.

Emergency services rushed to a workplace in Auckland this morning after a chemical spill left one worker in serious condition.
The Herald understands one worker from a laboratory at Fulton Hogan, Mt Wellington, has suffered burns after a chemical spillage.
He was transported to Middlemore Hospital in a serious condition.

A Hato Hone St John spokesperson said they were called at 8.23am this morning to an incident on Leon Leicester Ave in Mt Wellington.
"One ambulance and one manager responded to the scene and treated then transported one patient in a serious condition to Middlemore Hospital."
Four fire trucks responded to this workplace accident.
A spokesperson from Fulton Hogan said the worker was a subcontractor of the company, and was being looked after by their team members at the hospital.
