Good morning all,
Happy Monday! I hope you all had a great weekend.
What is everyone's practice on TLC plate waste? I am re-evaluating how we collect waste in the organic teaching labs.
We use 2 different plates for 2 different experiments:
- Bakerflex precoated flexible TLC sheets (JT44634)
- Supelco TLC Silica Gel 60 F254 (1.05735.0001)
The SDS for the bakerflex is says 99-100% amorphous silica with no known hazards. I cannot find the SDS for the other one.
With amorphous silica, all I could find was the danger of having crystalline silica contamination and the plates only generate dust if they fracture.
Would it be best if I just have everyone collect it in a silica gel solid waste container or is that overkill and we should just put it in regular trash (but first bag it before throwing it in the trash)?
Thanks!
Without Wax,
Wendy Hom
