Hi all:
I bring to your attention the following symposium, co-sponsored with the Committee on Science (ComSci). Please consider submitting an abstract to the following:
Pharmaceuticals in the Environment - the Next Emerging Contaminant of Global Concern
Despite
the increasing prevalence of reports in the peer-reviewed literature on
pharmaceuticals in the environment (PiE) over the past two decades,
legislation and regulation to address this truly global issue has been
slow to evolve in much of the world. This symposium explores key
underlying sources (e.g.,
manufacturing, health care facilities,
large-scale animal husbandry, and all of us, etc.) and challenges (e.g.,
the inability for many pharmaceutical actives to be effectively treated
in conventional wastewater treatment plants, pseudo-persistence, and
antimicrobial resistance) and will especially focus on the
chemistry
aspects of each. Symposium speakers covering these topics will represent
a variety of thought leaders on the subject including representatives
from the pharmaceutical industry, academia,
consulting, and regulatory communities.
