Question about a backup system for SDS in the event of power loss. Our campus has its primary mode for SDS to be that the SDS are available online via a database on a campus server that is backed up by a generator in the event of power loss to the campus. However, if power is lost to the campus, the campus computers and wifi will be down in the work areas. Our employees could still access the campus SDS database using their personal mobile phones using cellular data. Is this backup method acceptable to OSHA?
We would like to stop maintaining the hard copies of SDS as we are currently doing as our backup method. If personal phones are not acceptable, is there some other way to satisfy the backup availability requirements in the event of power loss? For example, if we have an emergency command center on or near campus that has power and internet, but that command center is not in the employee's immediate workplace area, is that still sufficient backup if the SDS can be printed out from our database in the command center?
Thank you for any information,
