Greetings,

I’m curious to learn more, compare how other medium to large universities perform eye wash and safety shower testing and approach compliance with ANSI Z358.1?  For comparison, our institution has nearly 700 eye wash and safety shower stations.

How often do your eye washes get activated/flushed (we do ours monthly)?  The standard states weekly testing.

Who performs the activations (we used EH&S dedicated staff).

Are your wash stations with 10 seconds (55 feet) of any place having hazardous materials in use, where hazardous materials is defined in the standard as “any substance or compound that has the capability of producing adverse effect on the health and safety of humans.”  This is a very broad definition requiring an eyewash or shower unit would thus have to be installed in every laboratory area (including sub rooms), every shop area, every makerspace, every mechanical room, every custodial closet, every kitchen, and every room where chemicals are stored.  (ours are currently installed in labs with corrosive chemicals, some mechanical building areas, and “machine shops”).

Are all or some of your eyewashes on tepid water (60 to 100 deg. F)?

Please Feel free to message me directly if you don’t want to post answers here.
