Hugo -
Are you looking for a complete purchasing system?
By "tracking orders" do you mean a system that places orders with vendors, a system that tracks orders placed with vendors (order placed, items received, items paid for, etc.)?
By inventory - are you referring to chemicals only or chemicals and consumables?
Are you looking for an inventory management system that simply keeps track of what exists, or triggers messages when to reorder? Are you tracking some sort of of "stock" inventory that moves to another location? And once moved, do you need to continue to track it?
Do you need to track accounting information for individual transactions?
Do you need to track the value of the item?
Our Chemistry Stores uses Quickbooks to manage many, but not all of the above. They fill in the process with several shadow systems, along with established Purchasing procedures, to manage individual vendor orders. We use a chemical tracking system (we use MSDSonline - not the best chemical management system) for chemical management. Billing and account management are done through the University's enterprise database management system (BANNER).
I can put you in touch with my Chem Stores Manager if you have specific questions.

Hi All,
As part of my new role, I have to set up an ERP - Enterprise Resource Planning system. Basically, a computerised system for tracking orders and inventories.
Does anyone know of a good system for doing this? The lower cost the better, and I can do with all the suggestions I can get.
Many thanks,
Hugo
