Re: A special art safety course
As some of you know I teach a 40-hour course every August on Art and Theater Safety sponsored by the Art Conservation Department at U of Delaware. And now UMass-Amherst has asked me to do a similar course just on Art Safety. We start with a section on the basic chemistry for non-chemists that we will need throughout the course. We use those basics to cover the hazards and precautions needed for painting, ceramics, sculpture (metal, wood, polymer, etc.), printmaking, photography, 3D printing, and so on. We also cover ventilation and planning of studios and classrooms for students from pre-school to professional. If you want a more detailed curriculum, contact me at actsnyc**At_Symbol_Here**cs.com .
The text is the 34 chapters of the unpublished 4th Edition of the Artist’s Complete Health and Safety Guide which I update before every course I teach and provide in pdf.
For those of you with a couple of weekends in January to do some zooms from home, the dates are January 7, 8, 14, 15, and 21. I will provide certificates of achievement. CIH’s can apply for CM credits from AIHA.
I’m attaching the flyer from UM-A with the code to scan for registration, but you can also use the following link:
