I have started a petition on change.org to address the recent unpopular changes to C&EN News policy and direction. I believe the actions of ACS leadership do not reflect the desires of the Society membership. If you agree, please consider signing the petition at https://chng.it/5Y8btr6Bns
Thank you.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Appropriate contacts at ACS
FYI, here are some suggestions for sending comments regarding the reorganization of CEN.
Tom Connelly, current CEO ACS t_connelly**At_Symbol_Here**acs.org
Al Horvath, incoming CEO ACS a_horvath**At_Symbol_Here**acs.org
The above two also chair the Governing Board for Publications
Lee Latimer, Chair Public Affairs and Public Relations LHLatimer**At_Symbol_Here**mindspring.com
Sarah Tegan, EIC pro tem, CEN S_Tegen**At_Symbol_Here**acs.org
Professor Christopher K. Ober, Chair, Society Committee on Publications ck03**At_Symbol_Here**cornell.edu
Some points to consider
CEN is part of the business of publications. This business is the cash cow of ACS and its income subsidizes everything else.
I have been an ACS member for 58 years and this is not the first shake-up of CEN.
I admire and respect Jyllian and Babiana for their service and contributions. Jyllian is also a friend.
Everything that has been said on this forum has merit.
But a business seldom rehires a terminated employee, unless forced to by a powerful authority. Even then, the smart employee will immediately begin looking to go elsewhere and leave as soon as possible. Jyllian is very well known and respected. She will not be unemployed for long.
Consider crafting your comments toward the benefits to the Society. Such benefits have been articulated by others referred to in this thread.
Consider crafting your comments toward the business of science and of publications. That will get the attention of policy makers.
Consider recommending that CEN be returned to publications, not communications.
And, please, this is not a battle to resign from the ACS over. It is a battle that ACS members can best fight – placing scientific publications under the aegis of intellectual publications, not public relations communications.
Thank you for listening to me. I wish you all a wonderful holiday season with your families and friends.
Neal
