We’re trying something different! The DCHAS Spring Workshop series will be all half-day sessions beginning at 1PM EDST – all the week of May 1. Abstracts are below; registration is available through the CHAS website CHAS Workshops 2023 | ACS Division of Chemical Health and Safety (dchas.org)
These workshops are all online at a low cost of $195. Half the cost goes directly to the Division and are an important part of DCHAS revenues. So, if you’re new to the field or just need a refresher, please review the schedule and pick a workshop! Let me know if you have questions.

How to Create a Better Lab Safety Program
This interesting and entertaining half-day workshop confronts one of the more common excuses for not having or improving the lab safety program ... "It costs too much." This is simply not true. Excellent lab safety programs do not need to cost large amounts of money. Thirty-three simple lab safety program components will be presented and discussed to demonstrate this important theme. These are the critical components for an effective lab safety program.
Participants will learn how to create a more effective lab safety program without a purchase order or requisition. You don’t want to miss this opportunity for a highly informative, worthwhile and enjoyable learning experience. Here’s a unique opportunity to take a look at your lab safety program to see how you’re doing and how you can do it even better.

Laboratory Waste Management 2023
Each new generation of lab personnel needs to learn the basics of managing laboratory wastes. Academic and Industrial R&D facilities are all subject to RCRA and state regulations that require cradle-to-grave liability for waste generators. This workshop is completely up to date on the regulatory structure and common on-site management methods, including the Generator Improvement Rule which mandates waste determinations at the point of generation. Learn about how to make waste determinations, accumulate wastes effectively on site, manage the required recordkeeping and prepare a waste manifest. We will address disposal technologies, vendor selection, and how to reduce costs by waste consolidation on site and in municipal systems while maintaining regulatory compliance.
