PLEASE POST:

 

The University of Arkansas Facilities Management Department is now accepting applications for a Radiation Safety Officer.  Duties include, but not limited to:   Receiving isotopes and conducting surveys of packages for contamination; Delivery of isotopes to users; Performing laboratory inspections; Assisting personnel with the setup and evaluation of new laboratories; Conducting swipe tests and instrument surveys; Performing leak tests on sealed sources; Picking up radioactive waste; Distributing dosimeters to users; Responding to spills and other emergencies; Assisting with the administration of training to new users; Accompanying regulatory agency representatives during routine inspections; Reviewing user applications; Attendance of all meetings of the Radiation Safety Committee; Acting as the University’s liaison with the Arkansas Department of Health.

Regular, reliable, and non-disruptive attendance is an essential job function of this job, as is the ability to create and maintain collegial, harmonious working relationships with others.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, or a related field
  • At least five years of experience as a health physicist, or in physics, chemistry, biology, or a related field
  • Formal, documented training in radiation safety
  • Individual received security clearance

Required license(s)/certification(s):

  • Valid Driver's License

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in physics, chemistry, biology, mathematics, or a related field
  • Ten years of experience as a health physicist, or in physics, chemistry, biology, or a related field

Working hours are Monday – Friday 7:30am – 4:00pm. 

 

Salary:  Commensurate with education and experience
