Thank you all! This has been very helpful.
Currently, we have under 4000 chemicals and we barcode them upon arrival after ordering, to add them to our Vertere Chemical Inventory.
As they are used up, the faculty/staff bring me the barcode and annually I ask for any surplus chemicals and I pick those up as well. I remove barcodes from our inventory when we use them up or dispose of them with our hazardous waste vendor.
Twice a year I do a chemical inventory of all of our labs. I was hoping that doing once a year would be ok, and it seems like that is what most people are doing as best practice.
I appreciate all of the responses.

Hi Shannon,
I don't work for a university. I work for the government and we have a small operation here. We perform chemical inventory once a year and report the quantities to the state environmental agency upon completion.

Subject: [DCHAS-L] Chemical inventory frequency.
Good morning,
I'm trying to gather data to see how often universities are doing chemical inventory.
If you could please reply and state if you are a small, medium or large university and if/when you do chemical inventory and the frequency.
This information is greatly appreciated.
Best,
Shannon
