With all due respect, DCHAS is a community and this does deserve discussion.
The listserv has been and very much continues to be a valuable resource in providing a general understanding of our industry’s general needs.
Its replacement must not be done in a vacuum AND should allow for discourse. I am frankly underwhelmed by the suggestion of “no discussion.”

Just to be clear…
I would prefer that we not continue this thread until the group working on this has a chance to complete their task.
I have been through transitions from listserv to other system where we’ve lost participants because it was too different. We are committed to ensuring that doesn’t happen.
Best,
Robin

Listserv software is being phased out and not supported. We are planning ahead for this change, and will keep everyone posted.
Do you mean at Princeton, where the listserv is currently hosted? I haven’t heard of the produc itself being
discontinued. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/LISTSERV
Can’t we simply find a new university host for the listserv? We’ve switched a couple times in our history. Or
switch another email list solution, of which there are dozens?
If we do move to a “community” web site/hub model there still needs to be some kind of email notification or
digest. I suspect most people like myself simply do not have time to go visit a site regularly (and then are lost to the community). One of the joys of DCHAS-L is that all sorts of random interesting topics pop up in my inbox and I can read or ignore them
as time permits.
