No danger to public after report of gas leak at Texas Tech Experimental Science
LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) - Lubbock Fire Rescue says there was never any danger to the public after their Hazmat team investigated a report of a gas leak at the Texas Tech Experimental Science building.
Derek Delgado with Lubbock Fire Rescue released this statement on Thursday night:
“Around 9:21PM, Lubbock Fire Rescue received a fire alarm activation notice for Texas Tech University Experimental Science Building. Engine 4 arrived on scene and met with Texas Tech Police Department, where they advised that there was some form of gas leak inside of the building. At that time, a Haz-Mat response was dispatched. Air monitoring inside showed 11% LEL. Haz-Mat crews made entry to later locate a container deemed to be argon, an inert gas that poses no threat to either property or people. Argon gas can pose false LEL readings and trigger the cross sensitivities inside air monitors. This explains why crews that arrived first on scene had high readings. That container has been removed from inside of the building & there are zero injuries.”
