Demystify:

Ramiro,

Perhaps you clarify your use of the term “chemical agent” since that means something very specific to a portion of the community. Do you mean potentially toxic or noxious chemicals? The term “agent” is typically reserved for a particularly hazardous class of chemicals.

Best regards,

-Kevin

Subject: EXTERNAL [DCHAS-L] On laboratory fume hoods and chemicals cabinets

Dear colleagues,

I am seeking guidance on locating up-to-date information regarding the following:

  1. Guidelines for laboratory fume hoods designed exclusively for handling chemical agents. How can I determine if an older laboratory fume hood complies with current standards?
  1. Requirements for chemical cabinets used to store flammable chemicals. My question about the fume hood also applies here.

While we plan to conduct a thorough risk assessment based on the range of chemicals to be used, I would appreciate clear guidance on where to find information that can help us assess the suitability of existing infrastructure post-assessment.

Wishing you a nice day,

Ramiro Rojas
