Demystify:
Start your day with a mindset of safety.
-Dress appropriately. (your own clothing, wear PPE, hair/Jewelry contained)
-Clean up. Before and after you start working.  make it part of your daily tasks in a lab.
-Prepare for emergencies -Think, 'What could happen?". whenever you begin a task and think about how you would stay safe in the event of     an issue.
-be aware of your surroundings (people, objects, equipment)
      -Don't work alone.

Sincerely,

Hello,

Here are mine:
  1. Always remember to dress appropriately while working in the lab by making sure to wear lab coat, safety goggles, hair properly tucked, and wearing close shoes.
  2. No throwing any leftover chemicals down the drain.
  3. Use patience and read methods carefully before starting a new experiment, so no mistakes are made.
  4. Always know the exit signs in case you have to evacuate the lab in an emergency situation.
Best
Manju

Mine are:

Wear appropriate PPE for your task and also based on what is happening around you.

Label all secondary chemical containers properly.

Where chemicals and equipment are involved - check the CHP, research what to do, and/or ask the CHO.

Our CHO's answers (Dr. Susan Newton):

PPE

Cleanliness

Know your Hazards

So far, I've received nine responses.

Let's simplify the question in the hope that more will be willing to take the time to reply.

What are your top three most important lab safety rules?

Thanks  ... Jim

What do you believe are the most important lab safety rules?  The ones that you feel are so important that if you had a colleague who didn’t want to follow those rules, you don’t want that colleague in the same room with you.

When they violate these rules, they are putting themselves at risk.  They are putting you at risk.  And, they are putting the reputation and perhaps the future of your organization at risk.

Please send me your “Top 10” directly to jim**At_Symbol_Here**labsafety.org.  I will compile the results and share them with the listserv.

Thanks … Jim
