I really appreciate all the pieces of advice everyone has been sharing, and I would like to add one item for consideration:
- Making discussion of safety issues a routine practice
I have found that labs or work environments where safety is talked about on a routine basis are places where people are more likely to voice safety concerns, be aware of their own safety practices, and understand that safety knowledge is
not stagnant.

Be aware of your surroundings / pay attention
So far, I've received nine responses.
Let's simplify the question in the hope that more will be willing to take the time to reply.
What are your top three most important lab safety rules?

What do you believe are the most important lab safety rules? The ones that you feel are so important that if you had a colleague who didn’t want to follow those rules, you
don’t want that colleague in the same room with you.
When they violate these rules, they are putting themselves at risk. They are putting you at risk. And, they are putting the reputation and perhaps the future of your organization
at risk.
Please send me your “Top 10” directly to
jim**At_Symbol_Here**labsafety.org. I will compile the results and share them with the listserv.
Thanks … Jim
