Self-heating chemicals only pose an ignition risk in large quantities (e.g. multiple pounds or kilograms) that are exposed to fresh air for an extended
period of time (hours or days) – as Dr. Merlic indicated in his response, this does not need to be treated as a flammable for the purposes of storage.
For what it’s worth, the Sigma SDS for the product does claim in section 10.2 that it’s chemically stable during room-temperature storage. It does
also recommend storage under inert gas in section 7.2.

Hi all,
A researcher reached out asking about how to store
2,2′-Azobis(2-methylpropionamidine)
dihydrochloride (aka AAPH). It’s a new lab working in borrowed space, and they don’t have a refrigerator rated for storing flammables. Is this something you think a lab could safely
store in a flammables cabinet? Thanks!
Sincerely,
