Hi CH&S Community,

My name is Stephen Taylor, and I’m the new Executive Director at the Laboratory Safety Institute. As I’m new to this community, I wanted to introduce myself and share that we’re hosting a webinar/workshop series on Methylene Chloride. The series is structured around the Hierarchy of Controls, guiding labs to address chemical safety at every level—from eliminating or substitution plans for methylene chloride to implementing proper administrative controls and proper use of PPE if labs need to continue with Methylene Chloride use.

Here’s what’s coming up next:

  1. Laboratory Safety Protocols for Methylene Chloride Compliance – This workshop (hosted with DCH&S) will cover engineering controls, monitoring, and PPE for methylene chloride, ensuring your lab is both safe and compliant.

  2. Use This, Not That: Safer Substitutions for Methylene Chloride – This free webinar, hosted with Beyond Benign) provides a deep dive into greener, safer alternatives to methylene chloride to reduce risks in your lab. Join us for an engaging session that is sure to leave you with new ideas on how you can substitute DCM in your labs.

  3. Assessing and Updating Safety Protocols – Focused on administrative controls (CHP, ECP, WCPP), this workshop will show you how to update your chemical hygiene plans and maintain safety compliance.

If you missed our first webinar, Managing the Requirements of the TSCA Final Ruling, you can view the full recording here: Watch Now.

Feel free to explore the full series overview here. Each webinar offers practical strategies and live Q&A sessions, giving you the tools to enhance safety and compliance in your lab. Here is a link to Q&A that occured within the chat of our first webinar.

Please share with colleagues or anyone who might benefit from these valuable resources (poster with qr code attached)!

Looking forward to seeing you all there!
