Hi Tricia,
We use CampusOptics for our chemical inventory and SDS library. CampusOptics allows you to choose who can access the SDS library via the url or QR code - authenticated CampusOptics contacts only, CampusOptics contacts and any SSO users, or Public Access. We opted for Public Access to remove as many barriers as possible, and also permit contractors, visiting researchers, and the public to access our SDS library as needed. Anyone who can enter the areas where the QR code posters are located can access the SDS library.
I created a poster with the SDS QR code and url to be posted in labs and other areas where chemicals are used and/or stored, such as janitorial closets and the fleet maintenance shop. Our Aviation department is piloting the use of tablets for both online and pdf SDS access, with the pdf versions specific to the lab/class. Other faculty prefer paper copies, and have a staff member update their binders annually.
Feel free to contact me if you have any questions.
Marcy
Hello!
We are updating our digital SDSs on our campus and would like to know how you handle access.
- How do you control access to your SDS database? Can
the public search your SDS database?
- How do you give access to SDS of chemicals in a particular room/lab to your contractors?
- If you use QR codes for SDS in a lab, who has access to it?
Thanks for your help!
