Demystify:

I think that the spirt of the law is the eliminate MeCl and comply if it cannot be.

I am also wondering what happens to 29 CFR 1910.1052 – the MeCl standard.

Anyhow, I have to eliminate a 3% bromine solution in methylene chloride for hydrocarbon saturation testing. Has anyone have success with acetic acid or acetic anhydride or any other reagents?

For another process we are soliciting bids and they are quoting carbon adsorption. I also understand if 8 hr. TWA is less than 2 ppm no WPP would be required – but might be a good idea to have anyhow. That direct reading/immediate results quote might be if exposures exceed 2ppm.

Hey Ingrid,

We have been quite successful at removing DCM from our experiments. I know this isn't a direct answer to your question, but if you want I'd be happy to chat about the experiments you are doing and potentially offer alternative solutions.

Warmest regards,

Jonathan

Hello all,

I am reaching out for advice regarding EPA Methylene chloride monitoring.  I work at 2YCC, where we use DCM less than 30 days per year, only for certain lab experiments. It’s likely that only two employees need to be monitored, but I am not quite sure if to perform monitoring only with badges or if we might need to invest in a direct reading equipment (“the owner or operator must provide measurements taken by direct-metering devices that give immediate results and provide sufficient information regarding potentially exposed persons”) if the latter, what equipment would you recommend for efficient direct reading?

I would really appreciate your support.

Thank you,
