Thank you all for your comments!
Our goal is to eliminate it from the experiments, while ensuring compliance in the meantime. Thank you Jonathan, I'll reach out to you soon. Filiberto, I’ll contact you as well.

Again, thank you!

Hi Ingrid -
VCU uses the badge, if that helps. But, I'll echo Jonathan. We are also eliminating DCM and re-tooling some experiments. Compared to the frequency of use, the burden to keep the chemical is too high with monitoring people to make sure they were using the chemical appropriately AND using the badge monitors.
Cheers!

Ingrid,
I used to work in an industry that used thousands of pounds of DCM a year and I conducted monitoring for compliance with OSHA standards at the time.  The industry discontinued the use of DCM when OSHA promulgated the DCM standard.  All my personnel monitoring was conducted using badges as OSHA would not accept direct read instrument test results.  We used Assay Technologies (assaytech.com) badges which included analysis.  Excellent results, easy to use, and great company to work with.

Hello all,

I am reaching out for advice regarding EPA Methylene chloride monitoring.  I work at 2YCC, where we use DCM less than 30 days per year, only for certain lab experiments. It’s likely that only two employees need to be monitored, but I am not quite sure if to perform monitoring only with badges or if we might need to invest in a direct reading equipment (“the owner or operator must provide measurements taken by direct-metering devices that give immediate results and provide sufficient information regarding potentially exposed persons”) if the latter, what equipment would you recommend for efficient direct reading?

I would really appreciate your support.

Thank you,
