Hi Melinda,
I've specified the ventilation for a flock of these studios. But from your description, I can't get a picture in my mind of how this system is supposed to work. Like they say: You show me yours, and I'll show you mine. I have lot of slides of successful ventilation for general work areas, etc.

Hi, all,
I am reaching out for guidance you might be able to give me on best practices for ceramics studio ventilation, in particular for silica dust management in the general work area (versus glaze handling or kiln areas).
Our current setup involves intakes that are ~12ft above the floor, with filtration on vertically oriented openings (not face down, but face on the side). To keep operations from negatively impacting occupants, since it air is drawn through breathing spaces, this ventilation is only turned on after hours. We would like to redesign this.
What our Ceramics Shop manager has seen for ventilation setups in other academic studios is that the standard is, understandably, baseboard level intakes. The thing I'm struggling with is finding some sort of reference or other suitable source to make the case to decision makers on our campus.
So I'm wondering what your experiences might be with ceramics studio ventilation design requirements.
Anything you might be able to pass on much appreciated,
Thanks in advance,
