Demystify:
Dear colleagues,

I hope this finds you all well.

I've attached the CHP for both University of California, San Francisco (UCSF) and San Francisco State University (SF State).

I'm always open to guidance on how we can improve either CHP.

Thank you for your dedication to maintaining and improving laboratory safety; we are all deeply indebted to you for your work.

N.b.: I highly recommend the U.S. Chemical Safety Board's youtube channel. They produce very helpful safety videos that don't require a P.E. to understand! The lessons learned from those incidents have implications for us all, whether or not we are directly involved in the chemical or process industry.

Lastly, I highly recommend the work of Trevor Kletz. Kletz is widely considered the father of process safety and inherently safer design. His work similarly has implications for all involved in laboratory work.

Thank you all again.

Respectfully,

Charlie Gates

Hi James,

This seems like a great resource! Would you mind if I share it with our social media audience (about 5000 people) or our email list (about 7000 people)? I don't want to overwhelm you with requests and I know this list is semi-private. I've been working with Stephen and Elizabeth on some joint safety content and would love to include this as a resource. Please let me know what you think.

Would you like ten suggestions for improving your Chemical Hygiene Plan?  Send a copy in Word format to jim@labsafety.  I'll return it with ten ways to make it better.

Annual reviews are mandatory.  Why not have a little help.  The price is right ... FREE.

BTW ... the same applies for your Written Hazard Communication Program
