Dear Filiberto,
We have a contract with CINTAS. This is beyond what you are describing. They have a vending machine that students pick up lab coats on a weekly basis and drop them in a second receptacle after use. This is for our undergrads. The program costs about $40,000/year and we have an average of 800 lab students in lab coats each semester. We don't have drawer space for students to store their lab coats. We also did have a vending contract. The cost of having a dedicated staff member tracking roughly equals the cost of vending.
We have a sustainability issue though. Each lab coat is in a plastic bag to vend. We are working on this.
Best,
Martha Morton

Hello,
I was curious if anyone on the listserv has experience working with a vendor to launder lab coats in an undergraduate lab setting. We are planning to do bulk laundering every semester given the ratio of students:lab coats but I wanted to hear if anyone has experience with this process and would be willing to share. Specifically, how did logistics work and what was the best approach? How did you handle requests for laundering and returns? We aren’t planning on implementing an RFID system with lab coats but rather going simple with industrial washers. We’ve historically relied on spreadsheets and FormStacks to track data. Thank you in advance.
