Good day everyone,
I hope you are all doing well as we try to stay warm in our winter months (some of us š)!
Iād like to take this opportunity to formally thank those of you who registered and/or participated in the virtual discussion "You Are Now In Charge of Safety, Now What?" that
was held on Thursday, November 20th with our much-valued members of the ACS Division of Chemical Health and Safety (CHAS). It was an excellent discussion that took place, and we look forward to continuing with this valuable opportunity to share with and
gain knowledge from our peers regarding lab safety in the 2YC.
A huge thank you goes out to Amanda Chung, Membership Chair of CHAS, for once again
compiling all the questions, answers, and shared resources, which can now be accessed at the 2YC Lab Safety Community of Practice web page (2YC
Community ā ACS Chemical Health and Safety Division). The page also has a recording of the session for those who may have missed it and will
also contain additional resources as well as all video recordings of future Lab Safety In the 2YC CHAS Chats. Many thanks to Melinda Box for the continued updates of our 2YC web page. On that note, we would like to announce the next 2YC Lab Safety CHAS
Chat...............
2YC CHAS Chat:
Industry Safety Expectations and Engagement for 2YC Chemistry Graduates and Technicians
Thursday, February 19, 2026
4:00 ā 5:00 PM EDT
Please join the 2YC Lab Safety Community for our next CHAS Chat: āIndustry Safety Expectations and Engagement for 2YC Chemistry Graduates and Techniciansā. This free, interactive discussion will take place from 4:00-5:00 PM EDT on Thursday, February 19, 2026.
Using the RAMP framework (Recognize Hazards, Assess Risk, Minimize Risk, Prepare for Emergencies), we will discuss the basic knowledge, skills, and abilities that industrial employers expect from chemical technicians and chemistry graduates from a two-year
program. The session will be co-led by CHAS Chair-elect/2YC Lab Safety Community of Practice Chair, Dwayne Henry, and industry representative from Midwest Chemical Safety, Harry Elston. Though geared towards 2-year institutions, information provided may be
applied to 4-year institution students and graduates as well.

Thank you all again for joining us, as well as your time and consideration. We look forward to hearing from and seeing you all soon!
