It is frustrating to read that "I have tried but nothing can be done".
 
If the editors of C&EN, including Mr. Baum, were really concerned, and 
doing their job of reviewing the content, they would be able to request 
an appropriate image or refuse to print any inappropriate image. 
 
Are the suspect pictures used generating income and are therefore not 
questioned, or is there deficient knowledge on behalf of the editors?  
It ultimately does comes down to who is approving the content of C&EN.
 
I myself will indeed write to the editors of C&EN regarding any 
picture/photograph that does not display the proper safety practices, I 
would hope that I am joined.
 
Who knows, maybe after a receipt of hundreds or thousands of 
letters/emails, it may get through.
