Unless your fighting your lab to lock an unlocked cabinet I would
answer common sense.
Plenty of classmates of mine store glassware from lab and made "bongs"
out of them. Not the smartest move considering the unknowns that once
occupied that glassware. Imagine now a "rocket scientist" who gains
access to the cabinet and thinks he is going to be the next tim leary.
I would think that investing $5 on a good lock would just be good
sense...law or not.
